Find out more about the experiment:

Do you know Italy? Come and discover a small town in the south of Italy, its riches and its contrasts. Because although Matera is a tourist town, it also faces major economic and social challenges. The Auxiliatrices, present in the city since 1978, invite you to meet the inhabitants and learn about their commitments in response to territorial and social issues. Through meetings, services and various practical workshops, you will deepen your reflection on active citizenship, the recovery of the territory, the valorisation of local resources as well as human, economic and social issues. With young Italians, you will enjoy the culinary and tourist riches while allowing yourself to question your own local commitment.

Find out more about our partner organisation:

The Institute of the Sisters Auxiliatrices was founded in Paris in 1856 by Eugénie Smet – Marie de la Providence – to demonstrate, through action, that ‘love knows no bounds’. Since its foundation, structured by Ignatian spirituality, the congregation has multiplied initiatives in favour of the most neglected. Today present in 22 countries, the sisters are engaged in professional work, in the Church or in associations, in a wide variety of fields: education, health, social work, aid to refugees, hospital and prison chaplaincy, travelling people, catechumenate, spiritual centres, youth ministry… The horizons are wide for ‘helping in every possible good’, according to the founder’s formula!

In Matera since 1978, the Auxiliatrices are at the service of the local Church and are present to accompany the sometimes complicated social realities of the outskirts.
